Overview
A Windows native porting toolkit for Wii Play, built around static PowerPC-to-C recompilation, a C++ runtime, Direct3D 11 graphics, and XAudio2 audio.
The current target is the European RHAP01, revision 1 game. Guest functions are compiled ahead of time; the runtime supplies memory mapping, hardware interfaces, IOS services, graphics, sound, and an emulated Wii Remote controlled by mouse and keyboard.
Download and run
- Download WiindowsPlay-Windows-x64-runtime.zip from Releases.
- Extract it to a writable folder.
- Run Configure Game Data.bat and select your own matching extracted disc folder.
- Run Play WiindowsPlay.bat.
Playing a runtime release requires no compiler or Python. The game data is supplied separately. See the setup guide for the required files and update instructions.
Status
| Area | Implementation |
|---|---|
| CPU | Static translation of PowerPC/Gekko instructions, floating point, and paired singles to C. |
| Memory | A 4 GiB guest address reservation with shared MEM1/MEM2 aliases. |
| Graphics | GX command processing, TEV/XF state, texture conversion, and D3D11 rendering. |
| Audio | High-level AX DSP voice processing and XAudio2 output. |
| Input | One emulated Wii Remote; pointer, buttons, tilt, twist, and motion gestures from host input. |
| Minigames | Development capture workflows cover the nine minigames; complete compatibility is not established. |
| Multiplayer | A second remote and online/netplay transport are not implemented. |
This is an experimental, game-specific runtime. There is no general Wii compatibility claim or verified performance target.
Controls
| Input | Action |
|---|---|
| Mouse | Point the Wii Remote. |
| Left / right mouse | A / B in the default profile. |
| Z or Space / X or Shift | A / B button alternatives. |
| Arrow keys | D-pad. |
| Enter or P / Backspace or M | Plus / Minus. |
| 1 / 2 | Remote 1 / 2 buttons. |
| W/S, A/D | Pitch and roll outside Tanks! |
| Q/E | Twist. |
| F or middle mouse / R / G | Push / lift / shake. |
| T | Toggle sideways orientation. |
| Alt+Enter | Borderless fullscreen. |
Tanks! switches to WASD movement, mouse aiming, left-click fire, and right-click or Space for a mine. The controls guide covers the profiles and current multiplayer limitations.
Build from source
Use Windows x64, Python 3.14, and a Visual Studio C++ toolchain with Clang, CMake, Ninja, and a Windows SDK. Python 3.14 is needed by the RVZ reader's built-in Zstandard support.
git clone https://github.com/SNO2207/WiindowsPlay.git
cd WiindowsPlay
python tools/rvz_extract.py "D:\MyGames\WiiPlay.rvz" disc
python tools/recomp.py disc/sys/main.dol recomp/config.json gen
.\build.bat
The extractor accepts the RVZ compression modes implemented in its source; it is not a universal image converter. All inputs must match the configured target. Read the build guide before generating code.
Documentation
- Setup and updating
- Controls and multiplayer status
- Building and local verification
- Architecture and complete tool reference
Development
python -m unittest discover -s tests -v
The tests use synthetic fixtures and do not launch the game or edit a personal save. tools/playtest.py is a separate game-backed diagnostic that requires your own unlocked test save; read the technical guide before using it.
When reporting a problem, include the build revision, target game revision, GPU/driver, and reproduction steps. Share only relevant log excerpts after checking them for local paths and personal information.
Repository contents
The Git tree contains runtime/recompiler source, build configuration, and address-only function seeds. Game images, extracted disc contents, generated game code, executable builds, shader caches, NAND saves, captures, and disassembler databases stay local.
Runtime releases contain the precompiled executable and launch/setup helpers, with a file manifest and checksum. They exclude game-data archives, extracted game files, saves, and debug/build intermediates.
No project-wide license has been specified. See NOTICE.md. Wii Play and associated names belong to their respective owners; WiindowsPlay is an independent project.
